How to be a registered Engineer in Nigeria

Hello guys
The last episode, i wrote about the educational training of a young engineer in Nigeria. I christened the character in the story line, Kalu. As at the last episode i wrote that Kalu has only qualified to be a graduate engineer upon his graduation from the university. In this particular episode i shall make efforts to clarify what kalu needs to be a duely certified engineer in Nigeria.
Let me state categorically that its not only those who attend the conventional university that eventually get to be registered as an engineer in Nigeria, those individuals who studied NUC approved courses from polytechnics and universities of Technologies also could be registered as well. Only that the means of registration for polytechnic graduates is different. In other to set a straight story line i shall introduce another character called Bimbo. Bimbo is Kalu's sister she finished from a polytechnic.
Haven known that, Kalu needs to acquire post graduate professional training in his field of study, say Electrical Engineering, for the next 4years. To achieve this, he could join the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) as a graduate member and avail himself for seminars, professional training courses, and workshops organised by or for the Society. Otherwise, he could sought to be trained under the pupilage of an experienced and already registered practising engineer.
After 4 years of post graduate experience, which of course must include his NYSC (National Youth Service Corp) service, he would then obtain the form for NSE corporate membership. The form is available online at the NSE homepage. The criteria to register will be discussed in later episodes. If kalu passes the exams and meets all the requirements of the NSE, he becomes a corporate member of the NSE. Thereafter, he could apply to COREN, the organisation that regulates the practice of engineering in Nigeria, to be registered as a practising engineer. If he meets the COREN requirements as well, Kalu would be issued with a COREN number and Seal. At this point we can all say Kalu is a registered Engineer.
In the next episode we shall discuss briefly about Bimbo, and how she could be registered as well.
Thank you for reading...
